Fall Favorites in Park City

September 22, 2019

As fall graces its presence at Park City, UT, the beauty of the transition from summer to winter awaits in this gentle season.  Fall is a great time to visit Park City.  The hot summer temperatures have dropped to seasonal 60’s during the day with a crisp fall mountain air at night.  The sun generally makes an appearance allowing for outdoor time on all of Park City’s beautiful trails and parks.  The tourist season has also slowed down, which means the scenes are more relaxed and often great dining/lodging deals.  In my opinion, fall (especially late September and early to mid-October) is a prime time to visit this beautiful mountain town.

Below are my favorite fall activities in Park City.

Rent a Bike
Park City is known for phenomenal biking – both on the roads, trails and cruiser riding around town.  The trail network within the town is a great option to keep on a flat, paved trail system and is perfect for every rider type.  This is also a mellow place to ride with the elderly, young kids, or even to pull a chariot.  For the more adventurous rider seeking the dirt trails, explore all of Park City’s mountain bike trails while taking in the fall colors.  As noted before, mountain weather can change quick, be sure to check conditions and stop into a local bike shop to get the best trail report.

Discover Museums and Art Galleries
Head downtown Park City to stroll along the historic mainstreet (and side streets) where quaint galleries and a museum await.  Discover the local talent of creative artists displaying their work in a variety of mediums.  Step back into time at the museum learning about the western history of Park City.  Perfect activity if the weather brings rain or a stray snow storm to town.

Hike
Similar to biking, Park City is known for the variety of hiking trails that cater to every level of hiker.  Many beginner trails are great options to get outside during the fall as they are at lower elevation and dry out pretty quickly if moisture arrives on your visit.  The paved trail network through town is also a great place to take a walk and enjoy the mountain views where the fall leaves are starting to brighten the back drop with golden yellows and oranges.

Take a Scenic Drive
There are multiple places to drive and explore around Park City.  Head into the mountains to see the leaves.  Many leaf peepers make way in the fall to experience the beautiful aspen tree foliage.  Stop by the Park City Visitor Center to chat with the friendly staff about the best fall drives and road reports.
